The remuneration that an nanny would expect to receive differs from one
position to another, but here are some guidelines for determining a fair
salary:
-
For live-out
arrangements, you should consider basic salary of between $8 and $16 per hour,
depending on the experience and qualifications of the nanny, as well as the
number of hours per week you require them to work. The less hours per week that
they will be working, the greater the hourly rate should be to compensate
fairly for this. As a guideline, a nanny just starting out and working 20 hours
or more per week would expect around $8-$10 per hour, whereas one working for
10 hours or less would expect roughly $12-$14 per hour. A more experienced or
highly qualified nanny would expect around $12-$14 per hour and $14-$18 per
hour respectively for these types of positions.
-
Gross salaries for live-in nannies vary from $1000-$1800 per month,
depending on the experience and qualifications of the nanny. The type of
accomodation offered should also be considered when determining a fair salary
to offer the nanny.
Should you be able to offer any special benefits such as use of a family's car,
phone, meals or snacks etc, you should negotiate with the nanny to account for
these when determining a fair salary.
A nanny's salary is usually paid either weekly or monthly, but if necessary
another arrangement can be made by agreement with the nanny.
